Instructional design is a relatively new discipline. Its roots are in the 1950s with the research of psychologists like Skinner, Mager, and Bloom. It is no coincidence that eLearning had its origins in the same era. The two have developed side-by-side with many intersecting principles. We recognize that learning is improved when we incorporate multimedia and tech-forward designs. But it’s not enough to put a laptop in every child’s hands; we want to find new ways to use such tools to open spark creativity and deep learning. So to us, the “e” in eLearning stands for a lot of things: enhanced, enabled, enriched, and always, evolving.
