What Is Micro-Credentialing?
What will I do?

- Only teachers at K20 GEAR UP partner schools can enroll.
- Enrollees must teach a class that includes GEAR UP cohort students.

Available Courses
Teaching and Instruction to Maximize Engagement (T.I.M.E.)
The K20 Center’s T.I.M.E. courses are designed to help you with classroom management, student engagement, and student assessment. These classes can stand on their own, but complement each other when completed together.
Requirements for each course include:
- Five modules of online work, roughly 90 minutes in length.
- After completing the course, you will submit a video of a full class period that includes a classroom activity.
Earn a $200 stipend for each course completed!
Each course counts as 1.5 PD hours.
T.I.M.E. Bell Ringers
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: In this course, you’ll explore a variety of strategies to help you implement productive activities at the beginning of your lessons.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices
T.I.M.E. Classroom Culture
- When: Best at the start of a semester or after a break.
- Objective: In this course, you will develop methods of building a safe and engaging classroom culture.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
T.I.M.E. Classroom Procedures
- When: Best at the start of a school year or semester.
- Objective: Master the art of establishing and maintaining effective classroom procedures to create an orderly and productive learning environment.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
T.I.M.E. Exit Strategies
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Explore instructional strategies to effectively wrap up lessons and formatively assess students’ understanding of content.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
Build-A-Badge
The K20 Center’s Build-A-Badge courses are designed to let you put together a collection of strategies you want to use in your classroom. Complete at least three classes to earn your micro-credential.
Requirements for each course include:
- Five modules of online work, roughly 45 minutes in length.
- After completing the course, you will submit a video of a full class period that includes a classroom activity.
Earn a $100 stipend for each course completed!
Each course counts as .75 PD hours.
3-2-1
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Use a strategy to build reflections that are easy to understand but allow for rich responses
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
30-Second Expert
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Use a strategy to let students share their learning and practice active listening skills.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
Commit and Toss
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Use a strategy to give students the opportunity to answer anonymously in a fun activity.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
Fold the Line
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Use a strategy to pair students by knowledge of content to foster productive discourse.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
I Notice, I Wonder
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Use a strategy to help students develop observational skills and learn how to ask meaningful questions.
- Target audience: New teachers or teachers who would like to refresh their practices.
Beyond Basics
The K20 Center’s Beyond Basics courses are built for teachers looking for a challenge. They support teachers with higher-level concepts and help them create meaningful lessons and projects they can use for years to come.
Requirements for each course include:
- Must have previously completed another micro-credentialing course.
- Five modules of online work, roughly 90 minutes in length.
- After completing the course, you will submit a video of a full class period that includes a classroom activity.
Earn a $200 stipend for each course completed!
Each course counts as 1.5 PD hours.
Multidisciplinary Lessons
- When: Any time in the school year.
- Objective: Collaborate with other education professionals to develop lessons that extend beyond your classroom.
- Target audience: Advanced teachers looking for a challenge.

Learning Authenticity and Discourse for Engagement using Pedagogy and Technology (Learning ADEPT Badge)
The K20 Center’s Learning ADEPT Badge is a series of six courses that explores authentic teaching practices. You may complete these courses individually, but they are intended to be completed as a series. Each course offers engaging content to transform your teaching and help you increase student engagement.
Requirements for each course include:
- Must be a core curriculum teacher.
- Complete five modules of online work, roughly 90 minutes long.
- After completing the course, you will submit a video of a full class period that includes a classroom activity.
- Not available to educators who have participated in K20’s in-person ADEPT workshop.
Earn a $200 stipend for the first course and $300 stipends for each subsequent course completed!
Each course counts as 1.5 PD hours.
How People Learn
- When: Anytime during the school year.
- Objective: Develop an understanding of the cognitive processes that occur during learning and how these processes interact with the K20 Center’s Authenticity Framework.
- Target audience: Any teacher who is looking to improve their teaching practices; however, the Learning A.D.E.P.T. courses are more difficult than the T.I.M.E. courses.
K20 Research Academy
- When: Anytime during the school year.
- Objective: Learn how to use the K20 Center’s research tools to track student engagement and create evidence of your teaching practices. You’ll also learn about the 5E lesson model.
- Target audience: Any teacher who is looking to improve their teaching practices; however, the Learning A.D.E.P.T. courses are more difficult than the T.I.M.E. courses.
Construction of Knowledge
- When: Anytime during the school year.
- Objective: Explore the importance of higher-order thinking and linking prior knowledge to new knowledge.
- Target audience: Any teacher who is looking to improve their teaching practices; however, the Learning A.D.E.P.T. courses are more difficult than the T.I.M.E. courses.
Inquiry-Based Learning
- When: Anytime during the school year.
- Objective: Practice productive discourse and develop meaningful questions for use in your classroom.
