Math Curriculum Specialist

About Samaya Williams, M.Ed.

I am the math curriculum specialist for the GEAR UP OKC grant. I have a passion for helping people discover who they are and grow into who they were put on this earth to be. Through the lens of a curriculum specialist, I work to help teachers strengthen their voice and grow their craft because there is only one them and what they have to offer to education, their students and community is so valuable. This position allows me to assume the role of a coach. I get to work alongside and support teachers by helping them create an authentic, student- centered learning experience for their students by sharing with them proven educational researched lessons and instructional strategies. Before working at K20, I was a middle school and Algebra 1 teacher for about 10 years. I have a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with an emphasis in math and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and will soon start working on my Doctorate in Mathematics Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum.l development. All learning experiences are customized to support the needs identified by individual school data. Her career as a high school ELA teacher began at the Zuni Public School District, the only tribally controlled school district in New Mexico, for one year and then moved to Norman North High School, where she taught ELA, Advanced Placement courses, AVID, and the Study of the 39 Tribes of Oklahoma for the past 18 years. Her passion for higher learning and authentic teaching led her to the K20 Center. Patricia obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Arts with an emphasis on English at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and her Master’s degree in Arts with an emphasis on teaching with a minor in Native American Studies from Cameron University. Outside of her career, Patricia and her family are active in their culture as members of the Oklahoma City Powwow Club, dancing at various powwows and tribal ceremonials, and playing handgame in the winter.
