About Delma Porter, Ph.D.

Delma McLeod Porter is a Creative & Technical Writer/Editor, a member of the K20 Center’s Writing Team working on the GEAR UP O+K=C, GEAR UP for MY SUCCESS, and GEAR UP for the FUTURE grants. McLeod Porter spent ten years teaching high school English and thirty years teaching at the university level.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and a PhD in Linguistics and Composition and Rhetoric from Texas A&M University.
 
She has written five textbooks on grammar and delivered 35 presentations at professional conferences. She has conducted 27 Prime Time family literacy programs and 17 adult RELIC reading programs throughout Louisiana through the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities program. She has written over $2.4 million in grants throughout her career.  She worked as Grant Manager and Outreach Coordinator for the Southwest Louisiana Law Center for seven years before joining the K20 Center in October of 2020. At the K20 Center, McLeod Porter edits lessons, professional development presentations, and educator resources. She also writes essays and short fiction and nonfiction pieces to augment lessons.
