About Amber Smith
Amber, the ADEPT Science Instructional Coach for GEAR UP for LIFE, works with the curriculum and instruction team to promote educator professional growth and implementation of student-centered instructional practices, thus leading to student academic success. Currently pursing a doctoral degree, Amber’s focus is to increase student engagement and academic achievement by incorporating culturally relevant pedagogy; ultimately, ensuring connection, instilling cultural pride, and increasing student self-efficacy.
Amber began her teaching career with Oklahoma City Public Schools in August of 2020, where she developed a strong repertoire in the sciences. Additionally, Amber held several leadership positions such as Science Department Lead, Academic Intervention Facilitator, and ACT PREP Seminar Head Facilitator. Inspired by the pedagogical theorist and teacher educator Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, Amber strives to impact education by fostering a supportive environment as a leader who values authentic connections with students, teachers, and the community.
