About Janis Slater
Slater serves the K20 GEAR UP for the PROMISE program by working with science teachers in Oklahoma City Schools to help them provide quality, authentic instruction so their students may pursue educational opportunities beyond high school graduation. Prior to joining the GEAR UP team, Slater worked for 10 years as a medical technologist, decided to become a middle school science teacher, and taught for 11 years. She is the mother of two adult children and currently pursuing a Ph.D. In her spare time, Slater enjoys visiting Washington D.C., hiking through national parks and shopping.
